mechanic weekend

It all began with a trip to get my car inspected last week...
A little brake trouble turned into to hours of fun and learning.
I'm pretty sure I am capable of fixing any brakes at this point!
Here are some pictures of all the fun.
Corey changed the back brakes with little problems...
then the front brakes were quite an interesting ride with Nate and Alan.
we decided to add a little heat to make it easier to get the axle nut loose...
a LITTLE heat would not do..
so Alan brought out the big guns and made it RED HOT!
there is that stubborn little bugger... stupid axle nut.
there she is... a work in progress..
Nate decides to take a food break... with his really attractive black, greasy hands.
Wendy and Lyla were the cheering section!

Thanks so much to all of you who helped me with my car!!
You are all such a blessing :)

PS... the car passed inspection! wooohooo!

Going home...

I love this Sara Groves song that my friend Lindsay posted on her blog.  Reminds me of my Mem and how she is experiencing our True Home already...

I’ve been feeling kind of restless
I’ve been feeling out of place
I can hear a distant singing
A song that I can’t write
And it echoes of what I’m always trying to say

There’s a feeling I can’t capture

It’s always just a prayer away
I want to know the ending
Things hoped for but not seen
But I guess that’s the point of hoping anyway

I’m confined by my senses
To really know what you are like
You are more than I can fathom
And more than I can guess
And more than I can see with human sight

But I have felt you with my spirit
I have felt you fill this room
And this is just an invitation
Just a sample of the whole
And I cannot wait to be going home

Going home, I’ll meet you at the table
Going home, I’ll meet you in the air
And you are never too young to think about it
Oh, I cannot wait to be going, to be going home

Face to face how can it be
Face to face how can it be
Face to face how can it be

Serve the City - Norfolk

Serve the City is a great way for us as the church to show the love of Christ through serving the community.  All weekend churches around Norfolk too part in many different projects around the city.  Me and some friends planted community gardens one day and today we did some landscaping and painting.  What a fun way to fellowship and also help people in need in practical ways! How I spent my Easter...

Today I spent Easter afternoon with the Goedecke Family (Brent and Abby from WVU).  They also have two awesomely fun sons, Colin and Joel.  We went for a hike at the Chesapeake Arboretum, which was also awesomely fun! Brent and Abby packed a picnic and we hung out all afternoon.  Then went back to their house to watch LIFE (a new Planet Earth series).   Here a few of Abby's pictures from the day:

Thanks Goedeckes for a fun Sunday! We will definitely have to do it again this summer!

thoughts...

Uhhg so much circling around in my head right now. This is what happens when roommate leaves me for the weekend and I have too much time on my hands to think and not verbally process. ;) Amy come back soon...

Here are the current topics of interest:
-Inflammation and its link to joint paint, muscle pain, psoriasis, asthma, (basically my life...) and a book called The Inflammation Free Diet Plan thanks to an infomercial that I was watching today for this.
-Mountaineer Basketball and the final four games tomorrow.
-Misinterpretations of the Bible and different groups that don't preach the true Gospel.  Oh how God must be grievous of this.  I just want people to experience freedom in Christ.
-The truth and Supremacy of the true Christ.  About his character and the balance between truth and grace and these verses in Romans 5:
12Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned— 13for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law. 14Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who was a pattern of the one to come.
15But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! 16Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. 17For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
18Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men. 19For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
20The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, 21so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Lord we do not deserve all that You have given us.  Help us to better understand all that You did for us on the cross.  That when you died You said that it was finished and You offered yourself up for the sake of restoring fellowship with You.  You tore the veil and made a way for us to be with You.  Help us to see Your beauty and unconditional love.  You love us in spite of us.  Thank you that we don't have to have it all together to come to You.  But instead, You prefer us to be broken and messy.  You tell us that in our weakness is when You are most strong. Amen.
